Ying ChenWhen Ying Chen was 16 and living in her village in Burma, a neighbor suggested taking her to Thailand to find domestic work. Not only would she earn money, but her family would receive a hefty fee as well. All agreed, and Ying traveled with the neighbor across the border. The neighbor dropped her off at the home of a Thai national, where, she was told, she would stay for the night. Instead, she and three other girls were forced to have sex with a series of men over the next three days. Then shipped off to Bangkok, she found herself in a massage parlor with thirty other girls. After one girl refused to have sex with a patron - and was raped, beaten, and confined to dark room without food or water for three days - Ying did not argue. All earnings from her prostitution went directly to the manager. A raid on the parlor in 1998 landed Ying in jail. Her movements afterward are unknown.
