Rambabu

Rambabu is a young boy from Bihar, in Northeastern India. One day in the summer of 2000, Rambabu's brother-in-law sent him to Delhi with a friend, who brought Rambabu to Mr. Bajaj's house. Rambabu began working as a domestic: washing, cleaning, walking the pet dog, cooking and doing other miscellaneous work at Mr. Bajaj's house. During this time, he was never given proper food, and was forced to eat leftovers from the family's plates. He had to sleep outside of the house and never received payment for his work. He had many cuts and wounds on his body.

He was never allowed to leave the premises of the house, except for his walks with the dog, Seazer. The dog was the only friend he had. On one such walk, took advantage of his momentary freedom: he leashed Seazer and walked in to the office of a local human-rights agency, where workers called the police. While workers were waiting for the arrival of the local police, Mr. Bajaj appeared and proceeded to abuse Rambabu verbally. The boy began crying in fear. The dog barked in his defense. Once taken to the police station, Mr. Bajaj admitted everything and agreed to pay Rs 10,000 ($250) in compensation. Rambabu is now in school. He has yet to receive the money.
