Mawien Ahir Bol & Yak Kenyang Adieu

Yak Kenyang Adieu

"We are not brothers, but we are brothers. We were taken together and we stay together. They came into my village last year. There were many men. Some were on horses, and some on foot - all of them were carrying guns. I don't know where my mother and father are. I had to [tend to the goats] in the north. I am given the remaining food at the nighttime and then I am told to go sleep with the goats. They used to beat me a lot. I had a fever and did not feel able to take the goats, so the master - Abduli - chopped my fingers off [showing the remaining palm of his right hand]."

Mawien Ahir Bol

"I was made to clean the goats' house. When I did not clean it the right way, the master cut my finger off [showing his right hand, missing his index finger]. He left and did not care for me."
