Lesson Ten: Kids Involved in Doing Service

Students who are moved by the subject can organize, lead, and participate in human rights activist group.

Procedure
  1. Students select a way in which they will participate in the abolitionist movement.
  2. Below are numerous ideas. Remember that no action is too small, and also remember that no action is too big. Students can change the world!
Suggested Activities for Activism
  • Coordinate letter writing campaign (see Lesson 9)
  • Display pro-freedom research projects
  • Exhibit pro-freedom art.
  • Form a Civil Rights Group
  • Initiate an anti-slavery e-mail campaign
  • Mobilize a street campaign
  • Organize a March for Freedom
  • Partner with a Human Rights Group
  • Organize a benefit:
    • Fashion show
    • Car wash
    • Bake sale
    • Concert
  • Partner with local business for matching donations
  • Partner with local celebrities for awareness raising events
  • Sell Anti-Slavery T-shirts, books, posters, flyers
  • Study history of slavery in various nations
  • Unite with Local Amnesty International Chapter
