Lesson Ten: Kids Involved in Doing Service
Students who are moved by the subject can organize, lead, and participate in human rights activist group.
Procedure
- Students select a way in which they will participate in the abolitionist movement.
- Below are numerous ideas. Remember that no action is too small, and also remember that no action is too big. Students can change the world!
Suggested Activities for Activism
- Coordinate letter writing campaign (see Lesson 9)
- Display pro-freedom research projects
- Exhibit pro-freedom art.
- Form a Civil Rights Group
- Initiate an anti-slavery e-mail campaign
- Mobilize a street campaign
- Organize a March for Freedom
- Partner with a Human Rights Group
- Organize a benefit:
- Fashion show
- Car wash
- Bake sale
- Concert
- Partner with local business for matching donations
- Partner with local celebrities for awareness raising events
- Sell Anti-Slavery T-shirts, books, posters, flyers
- Study history of slavery in various nations
- Unite with Local Amnesty International Chapter
